A Teepee creates a fun, cosy den at home or in the garden. This no-sew design by Angie Dierman looks great and is surprisingly straightforward to make.

This tepee would make for a perfect gift for a child or even a pet. You can customise it with fabrics that suit your home interior, or simply use old sheets and clothing.

To make it, you’ll need the following items:

Here’s how to do it in 10 easy steps:

1. Choose the size of tepee you want, and cut the wood pieces accordingly. If you’d like a large tepee, use the full 8-foot piece. For a smaller tepee, cut the wood to 5-foot. Once you have your wood pieces ready, drill a hole 12-inches from the top of each piece. The hole needs to be big enough for the rope to fit through.

2. String the rope through the hole in each piece of wood and tie a knot each time, leaving about 2 inches of slack between each piece.

3. Stand the wood upright and position the wood pieces to form your tepee shape. You may need some help with this step, to get the shape right.

4. Wrap a new piece of rope around the top pieces of wood, to secure the shape.

5. Using your glue gun, apply a line of hot glue to the outer edge of the wood, use enough glue to be covered by your first scrap of fabric.

6. Stick the first piece of fabric to the top of the wood, and wrap it around the top of the tepee, cutting off any excess fabric. Continue this process until you reach the height where you want your entrance curtains to begin.

7. To make your entrance curtain; you can either use two pieces of fabric, one for each side, or one large piece that will cover the entire front section. Don’t forget to cut a slit up the centre so you can open the curtains. To secure it, glue the top of the curtain to the bottom of the last horizontal fabric piece on the frame.

8. To cover the back of the tepee, you can use horizontal fabric strips or larger vertical panels. For vertical panels, cut large triangles to cover each section. Once glued into place, you can trim off any extra fabric.

9. To tie back the entrance curtains, cut a small hole in the fabric about half way down the tepee, close to the wood. String a small piece of rope through the hole and around the fabric.

10. No your tepee is ready to enjoy! You can put cushions and blankets in it to create a cosy den, or lights and toys for the children to enjoy.
